Here in the Prati quarters we have a variety of trees and plants,
like the Japanese plum tree now so heavy with its golden fruit
hued in grey with the smog.
There is a tree called ''Judah's Tree'' that flowers during Easter
in Lenten purple and covering a variety of pink hues.
(Judah is said to have hanged himself on one of those trees...)
They have already produced their string-beans.
今週梅雨のような雨の日が続き、
台所で育てているバシリコさんたちは窓に向かって茎を伸ばす。
ソーラーパネルのような葉っぱ全開。
この地区の枇杷の木には実がどっざり。
枇杷は中国から持ち込まれた。
枇杷の木を見ると、何となく懐かしくなる。
(ヨーロッパではイタリア、スペインで生産されている。
イタリアはパレルモやカラブリア州など、南部で生産が盛んだ。）
「ユダの樹」にはもう長いマメがなっている。
そして薔薇、薔薇、薔薇・・・・
もうすぐサンタ・リータのお祭りだ。
ボローニャのサン・ジャーコモ教会で祝福を受けた薔薇を手に
回廊の続くボローニャの街を歩くおばあさんたち・・・
絵のような光景だったなあああ。
Tried making a ''kakejiku'' with paper only with an ex-student of mine.
It was quite fun.
Wonder what kind of glue is used in Italy to restore the scrolls.
(they probably import it from Japan or China...)
I would really like to learn the art of mounting paper on cloth
when we go back to Japan for vacation.
The ''hyousou'' technique is actually another way of framing
artwork!
It would be interesting to apply this type of framing (or even something similar) to something done on canvas...hmmm....
昔の学生と紙製の掛け軸を制作してみた。
しかし裏打ち用ののりでなかなかいいものが見つからず、
製本で使われるのりを使ったら本紙までちょっと黄色くなってしまった。
こちらでの掛け軸の修復にはどんなのりが使用されているのか
問い合わせてみる必要がある。
日本に帰ったら表装の技術を少しでも学んでみたいものだ。
表装は額装の一種。
いろいろと応用したらおもしろいかも。

During the Bologna Children's Book Fair I haven't been able to
look around so much but the interviews we did at the
SMALL WORLD booth are really interesting.
The SMALL WORLD is a group of small publishers that have decided to
remain small in order to pursue quality in book-making.
Tara Publishing, one of its members from India, does hand-made books!!!
Each copy is a numbered original and my son is SOOO proud to
have one of them on his treasured book-shelf.
It's great that we are working with our hands again
even in book-making!!!! VIVA LA MANUALITA'!!!!
中世史研究所図書館での修復過程をまとめたちょっとしたドキュメンタリ制作完了。
カメラを変えたのでまだ慣れていないせいかどうも手ぶれが気になる。
JVCのEverioを日本で購入したのだが
どうもFinal Cutと相性が悪く、手こずっている。
ソニーの陰謀か？？？？
ボローニャ国際絵本原画展のほうは今年も素材がなかなかいいかも。
今年のブックフェアは国ごとの共同ブースが随分と目立つなああと
素材を見つつ改めて思った。
その中でやはり、国境を越え、世界の小さな出版社たちが集まって
一つの現象を作り出そうとしているSmall World はいい。
メキシコのペトラ出版の写真絵本はメキシコの美しさを前面に押し出している。
手製の絵本を作るタラ、さまざまな絵本プロジェクトの仕掛け人である
フランスの「三匹のくまさん」たち、そしてこの運動の発起人である
駒形さん。まぶしくなるほど素敵なメンバーたちだ！
来年のボローニャではかれらの一年にわたる活動結果の発表があるだろう。
After school yesterday I was assaulted by parents who
wanted to know how to cope with costume-making for the school play.
Got some coarse jute cloth and have already started to experiment
on making costumes for the ''primitive men''.
放課後、学芸会の衣装をどうやって子どもと作ったらいいか
悩んでいるお母さんたちの襲撃に遭う。
（特に「原始人」役の衣装がややこしい。）
土曜日に同級生のお誕生会があるのでそのときに
実験的に作ってみることになった。
